Hello friends! A quick post before I continue with my evening and (most likely) shut this laptop. I’ve written a little something on creating and the mediums used in such (see post below) and it’s in my typical stream-of-consciousness style, random with perhaps a nugget of truth here and there. Sometimes perhaps I need to learn to write more concisely. As I read my current book with essays by C.S. Lewis, I take a step back and admire how he so brilliantly communicates profound truths. I am, I must confess, a bit jealous of his skills in such communication. Anyway! That was a fun bit of writing to accomplish, but now I feel that dinner making must take place. Tonight is classic sausage pasta, hurrah! It will take a bit of time to cook the sausage, carrots, onions, etc, of course. But the best part? Once the tomatoes and milk is poured in and everything is slowly bubbling away, I have a good hour or so to sit back down here in my corner chair and read. I’ll light a candle of course as well and then sigh for pleasure that I have the time to let my mind linger on the words on the page in front of me. I think I’ll knock out the C.S. Lewis book and then perhaps read either more of my Bonhoeffer book or the (admittedly lesser in quality and content) Sanderson that is my current. So that’s the plan for the evening. Grateful for this night of rest that is given me. Peace and love, dear friends.

Haven
A Friday evening beckons. And this is one of my favourite types of evenings full with all my favourite types of things. I am simple, I know, but there is not much I enjoy than a quiet evening at home in which I can simply sit still and rest. Ah how wonderful it is when there are moments in which there is nothing I simply must do. Instead? We have a quiet evening ahead in which there will be sitting and reading and yes, even some watching of World Cup action (Argentina vs. Cape Verde)! It’s been a long week and though it’s been a good one – I will always be grateful for work and the normal rhythms of the day-to-day – I am so grateful we have reached its end and tonight is a night of rest. Soon enough, Dani shall be cooking dinner and we shall enjoy a hearty meal. But for now? I rest. I have thought of writing and I suppose you could say this present output is a writing of sorts. Not quite as creative as I was hoping. But you know what? That’s ok. Perfection beckons. But in this moment, simple rest is good enough.
Lo She Stands at the Door and Waits
A sigh exhaled. A busy day nearing its end. A busy day, but a good day. Now the sausage pasta cooks on the stove, music softly plays and soon a book shall be opened. Or perhaps two, we shall see. It is good to sit down and rest, then I can say for certain. I lift my prayers to heaven, I say thank you to my Lord who sits on high above. It is good to rest now. It is good to rest now and still yet know for certain that someday true and complete rest awaits. Peace and love, my friends. Peace and love.
Starry Eyes
A candle on the table. A blanket on my lap. A cup of coffee at hand. A few words. It is oh so nice to rest. It’s been a good weekend all in all…but a bit hectic and busy. Now at last, all that is past. I could go to a party tonight, but I have decided a night of rest is needed. And this afternoon has been lovely, indeed it has. After coming home from church and having a quick lunch, got my workout in and laundry done…then because the day is beautiful(but warmer! t-shirt weather has returned to houston!) walked down to EQ. As I walked, got to talk to Maryanne for first time in a while! Yay! We had a nice long chat…oh it was beautiful to be able to sit at the porch at EQ and talk with Maryanne about various things. Can’t wait to see her in less than a week! After that, read a bit of my book(Hungarian third book in trilogy – “They Were Divided”. Tragically sad. But beautiful. I’ll log it shortly, as I should finish it within the next few days). Finally, time to walk back to the flat. And here I sit, enjoying some decaf coffee and the flickering candle on the table and my warm blanket and randomly typing these words. The Steelers-Patriots game is on TV and I’m mildly paying attention…now though, think these are sufficient words for the now. Back to my book. (Now “Knowing God” by Packer. Deeply encouraging) Very grateful for this afternoon and evening of rest which I have been granted. A good book, a cup of coffee and a night of rest. Does it get any better? So happy. Peace and love.
Sleeping Kittens
I am having a restful evening tonight. So happy. Had a (fairly?) productive Saturday…now eating my burrito dinner and Rockets/Thunder game about to start. So I am looking forward to a fun evening of basketball with a little bit of reading on the side. The march through Owen must continue!! Quite encouraging reading about the Holy Spirit and His work…in my life and the lives of all those who believe and in all things as God wills. Alright, no rambling from me tonight. Souvenirs
It is a peppermint mocha Friday!! I am oh so happy that Friday is finally here and rest is almost at hand…been a long and busy week(full of fun things and work things, just lots of things all around) and so not much sleep has been had. I’m very much looking forward to a quiet night tonight! Planning on making up a big batch of burritos, enjoying that for dinner…and then reading in peace. It shall be glorious. I so declare. As for the main reason I decided to post today, trying to continue to keep records of my reading…latest completion is as follows:
3. The Broken Eye by Brent Weeks. This is book 3 in a series known as Lightbringer. Received book 1 from Maryanne for Christmas and consequently devoured(along with Caisson – as we both got this, so it was fun to read in parallel when we were home for Christmas break!)…bought book 2 at the airport as I went to Calgary for Robbie’s wedding. Now I have also obtained books 3 & 4 via the Amazon and so now have completed this one and one more to go before the long wait for book 5(tentative 2019 release date?). Anyways! This is your typical fantasy novel set in a new world with a very colourful magic system and super rounded, real-feeling characters. Because of some crudity of language and content here and there, it’s hard to unreservedly recommend these, but I must confess I have much enjoyed reading – the plot and storylines are gripping and keep you reading and again…the characters are such a delight – even the minor ones I’ve fallen in love with! I also wonder if the author is Jewish and/or Christian…it’s hard not to when his characters have names such as Ben-Hadad and there are evil characters named Abaddon!! There are numerous quotes that convince me of his at least familiarity with the Bible – “You shall be repaid for the years the locusts have eaten…” Anyway, finished this last night so on to Book 4. And again – while I can’t wholeheartedly recommend these, I can say this book was a most enjoyable read, and has me thinking deeper thoughts than with most fantasy I read. Quality writing, indeed.
