Well, today was the first day of school. Woo! Or..not really. But still, it wasn’t that bad. Only had one class(Microprocessors), BUT it was two hours. And started at 7:25 in the morning. I have got to find a place to get coffee before I go there, otherwise I’m not going to be able to pay attention. But after that class, I was free for the rest of the day! I stopped by work to check in and see what I needed to start on and after that, went to the BCM noonday with Dream and Rob for some sweet food and fellowship with people I haven’t seen all summer. It was weird remembering my freshman year and the first time I went to the BCM for a lunch and how I didn’t know anyone but Dream. Now I feel so old!

Anyways, after that, we walked in the incredibly hot sun to get some books for Dream. After that and my lack of sleep, I had to take a nap back at Keys. When I got up, me, Rob, Rach, Laura and Dream all went to Publix to do some shopping since we all needed to stock up on food. It was sort of cool, my first time doing all the real shopping for myself, now that I have a kitchen and a will to cook(and eat, haha). Me and Rob made spaghetti and I made the inaugural salad of the year. Truly a glorious event!

And tonight, Danika and Devin came over and the four of us played Lord of the Rings Risk…been so long since I played it, took a while to acclimate to the map again. We also watched Return of the King(Extended) on Rob’s laptop while we were playing, so we kept getting distracted by the marauding Orcs and glorious Rohirrim(Forth Eorlingas!) So we never did finish it(I think Danika was winning), and now I probably should get to bed. Thus was my first day of school. Farewell, all!

Ok, posting an entry I actually wrote a few days ago, on the 18th. But the Internet wasn’t working then. It is now, FINALLY. I don’t really feel like writing much now, but tomorrow’s the first day of school…and I wish it wasn’t here quite yet. Here’s the entry:

I am writing this on Word right now because for some reason the Internet in here is being stupid and refusing to work. And where am I right now, you might ask? Well, I’m in Gainesville, YEAH! That’s right, the boys are back in town. And today has been such a long day; I really should be sleeping now. Nah.

So I woke up this morning at 3:30 AM. Yep, a little early. Katharyn had a 6 AM flight to California(she’s going to The Master’s College there), so me and my mom had to take her there. Her suitcases were ridiculously heavy, but we got them(and her) to the airport all in one piece. After getting home, I collapsed for a couple hours before getting up around eight to finish packing.

Said goodbye to my family and drove up with David to Gainesville! It was so great seeing the city and campus again – every year I’m here, I just love it more. I got to my room at Keys(which is an awesome apartment style dorm; we have our own kitchen/living room and two bathrooms and private bedrooms) and relaxed for a couple hours as I unloaded what I brought with me. Dad’s actually bringing most of my belongings on Tuesday, so I have to survive until then with my two bags of stuff.

I called people(like Dream and Rob) but no one answered until finally Rob got in town! It was so sweet seeing him again. We unloaded his car and then went and played disc golf with his dad and Liz. I haven’t played all summer, so I was pretty rusty, but it was still great fun. After that, me and Rob stopped by Taco Bell for some sustenance and then just chilled in our awesome pad(where he gave my birthday present – just a little late – Return of the King extended edition..so awesome!) This is going to be such an amazing year – I can already feel it. Our third year at UF…a great adventure is continuing! Hope everyone is doing well…I can’t post this now(stupid Internet), but I will probably post this as soon as it’s restored.

Wow, so I’ll be back in Gainesville in about four days. I am so super busy this week; either packing, shopping, or seeing people before I leave. Also, helping take all of Katharyn’s boxes to be mailed out to California. It’s weird thinking she’s going to be farther from home than I am. Today I went to Wal-Mart to grab some kitchen supplies and also bought a couple DVDs, Air Force One and The Matrix. Now I just need to buy Reloaded(I love that movie).

Oh and I only have two more days of work! I thought I’d be really happy when work was over and done with, but now that it’s getting to the end, I’m sad…I’m really going to miss the people I work with. You know how you hear horror stories about people’s co-workers/bosses? Well, none of that here. Come winter, guess where I’ll be working again? That’s right, Sweetbay. One other note here, I got the “Service Clerk of the Month Award”. And yes, Service Clerk=bagger. Ok, that may not be the most glamorous of awards, but I’m pleased that God’s given me the ability to work hard at whatever I do…including bagging groceries.

And I just realized last entry I wrote about the beach day coming up, and yeah, that was definitely awesome. I only got a little sunburnt, and it was great seeing Laura again. And Dream, too for that matter, seeing as I’ve rarely hung out with her this summer. She gave me my b-day present(only about four months late, haha), “School of Rock”! Wooo, that movie is super sweet.

And I am annoyed with my muse for having left me all summer…I have gotten no productive writing done at all. Ah, well. When it comes back, I’ll be ready.

And now, I am off. Farewell, all!

Less than two weeks before I’m back in Gainesville! Wow, I cannot believe the summer’s flown by so fast. It feels like I’ve barely gotten out of school and now it’s going to start up again. But I can’t say I’m not looking forward to being in Gainesville again – I miss seeing people too much!

I’ve been having a pretty good couple of days lately; I haven’t been working too much, so been hanging out with family a lot. Played mini-golf on Friday with family and somehow I didn’t win a single game…hmm, my skills are slipping. Saturday I got called in to work early, so I ended up working almost 10 hours. Wait, so I guess I have been working sort of a lot…anyway, that was a long day. And Sunday I got to just relax at home watching golf(Tiger won, of course – by 8 strokes) and reading. That night, went to the church youth group for the first time in forever! Since I usually work Sundays, I don’t get to go. Anyways, it was much fun, despite me being older than everyone by at least 4 years. We made homemade pizza and played football in the field…which got me really excited for intramurals coming up this fall!

Today I went out shopping and I spent over $100 on clothes and such…I felt like such a girl, spending that much. No offense to any of you ladies out there, of course. But still, I only bought a shirt, dress loafers and a new belt…and somehow that came out to $102 dollars. Well, I guess I’m working for a reason…

Tonight we(Mom and Maryanne and Laura and I) watched the second half of Fellowship of the Ring with ice cream…fun times, since my mom has never seen it before, so we had fun explaining all the little details to her. Now, I’m thinking I should probably get some sleep, since I had a pretty bad headache earlier. I took Tylenol and a nap, so I’m feeling a little better now.

Anyways, hope this update is sufficient for now. Good night, all!

So, was working at Sweetbay tonight and had a very interesting time. The power went out, smoke was pouring out of the liquor store, the whole store was evacuated, and six fire engines showed up before it was all over. Don’t worry, I’m still alive.

Actually, it wasn’t as bad as all that… Around 9:30 or so, the power went out and it was dark for about five seconds before the backup generators kicked in. All the lights outside were still dark, but we had power to our registers and dim lights overhead, so business went on as usual. I joked with the customers about finding their way around the store, but everything seemed to be all right. Around 10, I saw fire trucks pulling up to the store and one of the service leaders told me we would be evacuating. It was hilarious though because the customers didn’t want to leave and kept coming up to the registers to be rung up. I rung up one more person and then we made the customers leave before we did, as the firefighters came in the store. We stood outside for about half an hour, keeping our eyes on the propane tanks and wondering what in the world was going on.

Well, we found out that when the power went out, an AC unit in the liquor store blew and eventually started smoking(we could smell it from outside). And that was the whole story…it must have been pretty bad because when we went back in the store, there was lots of smoke in the liquor store. But no fire. So the fire trucks went home, the store stayed closed…and we got to clean up. Oh joy. So, no exciting ten-feet tall flames or anything like that. Still, I got to stand around doing nothing for an hour. And while I was there, some of my neighbors came by and called my parents, since they knew I’d be working then. So my dad came over to make sure I wasn’t dead(since they had told him, “There are firetrucks everywhere but we don’t see James at all!”

So there’s the story of the Great Sweetbay Fire of ’07. Except it wasn’t so great. And it wasn’t really a fire. Meh, that sounds too cool though.

Ok, work tomorrow, so goodnight!

Just got my first paycheck from Sweetbay…Hurrah! Finally my bank account balance will be going up again. Today I don’t have work, so just doing some chores around the house and spending time with my sisters…anyway, now to the real reason I started this entry:

So, it’s spring break. I just realized I haven’t written anything substantial in a long time. Right now, I’m at home in Tampa, chilling in my room while Rob plays Madden ’02 on his Gameboy. He just got here today and tomorrow we’re going down to Sarasota to finish off our spring break before going to Gainesville. But I’m starting this off all backwards. Let’s go back a little ways…

This semester’s been pretty good so far – even though I have a lot of work, I like most of my classes. Intro to ISE. Financial Accounting. Operations Research. Statistics 1. AutoCAD. The hardest one is probably Statistics, but at least I’m doing ok gradewise so far. Anyway, this is all boring stuff that probably none of you want to hear, so I’ll just skip to spring break.

I actually haven’t done much so far this past week – I came here last Friday and have basically been relaxing at home. Which is SO NICE. Great home-cooked meals and being with the family. I had a lot of Operations research homework as well as financial accounting homework, which was annoying, but I’ve gotten most of it done. Monday night was Sara Wilkin’s b-day, so me and Dream and Amanda went out and celebrated with dinner at Estela’s, this great Mexican place. I do so love Mexican food…

Wednesday, a bunch of us hit up the beach at Fort Desoto – I probably should put some pictures here, but I’m getting a little tired; maybe in the next few days I’ll post a picture update. Anyways, the beach was awesome. Even though the water was cold, we got some good sand-castle building in. And of course, you can’t go wrong with grilled hot dogs, mmm…

Today, I’ve been doing more homework until Rob got in from Tally. We then went to Wal-Mart and Target to restock my college snack supply and I applied at Target to work over the summer. For dinner tonight, my dad made chicken parmisan and it was amazing! Dream and Chris came over too and afterwards we watched United 93(great movie…so moving) and then the Gators game(first round of the NCAA tourney). We beat Jackson State 112-69. Not bad at all.

I guess I should probably get going to bed soon since we’re gonna get up early tomorrow to go to the park to play basketball, but I’ll leave you all with a short poem:

Mid-morning
Harsh as glass against the skin
Dull as unfound pearls half-buried
Reaping fruits not quite ripe
Reaching for the diamond light

Waves rippling strongly onwards
Trees bowing before the clouds
Water cascading down upon the shore
Traveling through the wilds evermore

Sun peeks over the azure horizon
Rising crystal vapor gleams
New morning parades its lace
a blushed glance, unveiled face.

So, almost the end of the week – FINALLY! The only thing I have left to worry about is my statistics exam at 12:50. I think I’m ready for it – but still a little nervous. We’ll have to see how that goes…

I had my 7:25 accounting discussion today – it’s so weird going to class that early in the morning. It feels like high school all over again. And it was SO cold this morning. Had to be in the 30’s, which I haven’t felt for a while. It was weird because as I was walking to my class, I had a cup of coffee – the inside of my hand was nice and toasty while the outside of my hand was freezing. Very odd sensation, let me tell you. But, for some reason, I don’t mind the early class TOO much. Just the waking up at 6-something. That’s not fun. Oh, and in class, while we were going over stuff I sort of already knew, I wrote a haiku. I’ve never really written them before, but I did. And it’s pretty lame, but hey, all haikus are. Here it is:

Accounting is a
very bad place to be at
an early hour.

Actually, I wrote it a little differently in my notebook, but it didn’t follow the form(ok, I don’t write them all the time), so I modified it a touch, so it actually is a haiku(5,7,5 instead of the 5,5,7 I had). Oh, and hour is two syllables. I so decree it.

Anyways..since you probably didn’t want to see my haiku anyway, I’ll change the subject. I’m sort of hungry, so I should probably eat breakfast soon. But I’ll talk about the Career Showcase instead. That was on Wednesday and was much fun. I was really worried, but I don’t know, I found it very..exhilarating, to be there and talk to the recruiters from different companies. I don’t know if I’ll get an internship, but at least I met a bunch of different company people and passed out my resume a lot. After it, I was exhausted though. I wish I’d gone last semester, but at least I went this time. I’ll definitely have to go next fall to get an internship for NEXT summer.

Ok, I’m not sure of what else to write, even though I know lots has happened, so I’ll just call it an entry and go have breakfast. Hope everyone has an awesome day!!
