So it’s a nice(albeit far too warm) Tuesday morning and I’m rather hyped that this is my last work day of 2017! Tomorrow I fly off to Tampa in the early morning and then it shall be a nice long holiday with family. Shall be lovely. This morning I’m rather sleepy after enjoying the Rockets game last night with James(120-99 victory over Jazz – 14th W in row!) and while I (sorta) wish I could say tonight would be a night of rest, alas it is not to be. Going to local Heights Theater to see Julien Baker play a show – she’s a new artist that I discovered recently(one of her songs is the closing track on my latest mix CD – Tears of Nienna – for which I will attempt to post track list at some point)…then last week, was walking down 19th past the theater and I saw them advertising her show! It’s rare I get to see an artist I know in such a nice small venue…so I’m excited!! It does mean that I will yet again get no sleep tonight. Ah well. I’ll sleep on the plane tomorrow, I guess. Now – I suppose it’s time to start work soon. Going to heartily enjoy my peppermint mocha – saw Katie at Starbucks today and she gave me a free one…yay, Merry Christmas, Katie! I realize this entry is quite all over the place…but I’ll not attempt to edit. Thus is my early morning stream of consciousness. Have a most lovely day, one and all!!

What is Not to Love?
Hello friends – happy Saturday!! I am posting at a later time than usual this Saturday…and a not-normal place. Currently sitting on my couch as I enjoy my raspberry/banana/spinach smoothie…most notably not at Starbucks, shocker! But I’ll explain why in a bit. It’s been a beautiful Saturday so far…starting off with sleeping in until 6, which was much enjoyed(and much needed). It’s been a long week, with work just being crazy busy and moderately stressful and most tiring all the way around. So last night was an enjoyable relaxing evening. Dinner of fish and potatoes followed by reading…started reading John Owen Vol 3 – “The Holy Spirit”. It may take me a year to read it but it will be glorious. Over six hundred pages of very small words…in sentences that are not easy to understand. But oh so worth it and oh so beneficial and encouraging to my soul. Thus continues my lifetime quest to read all of John Owen.
Anyways! This morning as said previously, woke up at 6, enjoyed a nice coffee and reading time here at the flat. Then went down to Black Walnut for a nice breakfast with Julie! We haven’t had time to get together in quite some time…so as I enjoyed my salmon eggs benedict and honey-sweetened coffee, we had much good chat(and at least on my side – I was much encouraged!!). Oh what a sweet friend is she. Following that, went to Men’s Wearhouse to get fitted for my suit for Julian’s wedding(which is in January and I can’t wait! Kelsey and him are perfect together – such a God-honouring couple. Truly glorious shall this wedding be!). After that, did a few other errands…then stopped at Starbucks where I truly meant to sit down and get some writing done. I got distracted by Katie who had just got off her shift and was having lunch before preparing to study for some of her classes. We ended up talking for over an hour about sundry topics…a totally unplanned conversation that was very enjoyable nonetheless! I do so love talking with someone that loves God and seeks to honour Him in all things. Very thankful to God for this random talk that He blessed me with!!
Following chat with Katie, I realized it was past lunchtime and I still needed to do my food shopping. No time to stay at Starbucks and write alas! So left Starbucks and went and did my HEB/Trader Joe’s run and finally made it home…talked with John and Camille for a bit before they ran off and I sort of enjoyed some leftover soup that needed to be eaten.
Now…I’m sitting here on the couch, half-watching the Michigan State/Indiana game(incredibly boring 3-3 game at the moment…) while I write this entry. This is a bit of rambling entry, but it’s been a while(I think?) since I’ve done one of these, so I will indulge myself. Soon I shall be off to Starbucks(yes, again!) to meet up with Earnie and Julian. It will be a sweet time of fellowship with dearest friends, of that I have no doubt. And because I really have nothing else to write…I guess I’ll sign off? Oh! I do have a poem that I need to finish and post at some point, but don’t think I have the muse at the moment. It’s the kind of poem that needs to be written at early-weekday-morning time…with the melancholy that can only come from brooding at work in the early dark. So – maybe next week you’ll get to see that.
Oh one more thing. Pizza Hut commercial just came on. I cannot wait until I can eat that again. It will be BEST NIGHT EVER.
Now I really shall end this. Peace out!
Up and Down the Heights
Hey friends – happy Saturday evening!! I’m about to eat dinner…my chili is bubbling away on the stove and is almost ready. And I’m not a little hungry, so not going to postpone that in service of writing! I’m still sick(ugh), but I have had a most blessed day, I cannot deny that. Deacons meeting this morning, then was able to rest and relax the rest of the day. Good times studying for community group and talking with John as I read my Knowing the Times by Lloyd-Jones. Felt so encouraged by God this day – I shan’t attempt to put that into words, but I know my God and I know I am loved. Then got a nice walk to Krogers while talking to parents. And at this moment…on the couch, getting ready to watch Warriors/Thunder game and enjoy a delicious bowl of chili(along with a glass of red!). It’s funny how sometimes I can be in a perfect state of health and be so unhappy and discontent….and then now, my physical body ails and yet I am at peace, joy abounding. Maybe it’s not that funny after all.
Alright, food time for me. Peace and love, dear, dear friends.
A Day of Chili
Happy Friday, all!! I’m enjoying my Friday peppermint mocha and this early morning calm before the storm. Nice and quiet here in the office currently, although that will soon change. Anything much going on here lately? Not really, although did have a great roommate night yesterday with John! We actually expanded it to include Camille last night…went over to her place, had far too much yummy pizza and watched Groundhog Day(as is proper). Bill Murray is outstanding, I always forget how much I love watching his movies! Tonight is Rockets game with James – I’m excited because they’re playing Chicago…never seen the Bulls play before! And so I get to see Butler and D. Wade and Rondo and all them play – should be a fun one! (Although of course…go Rockets!) And now, I must be off.
Have a wonderful day, dear friends – peace and love, always.
A Haystack World
Morning all!! Just a quick entry here on this balmy Thursday morning. I say ‘balmy’ because it is above 70(F) currently, which is completely unacceptable for mid-November. Just saying. I really would like to wear my turtleneck and jacket tomorrow to work, if that’s not too much to ask!! …honestly, I’ll probably wear that combo no matter what. I need winter weather. Please?
Anyways! Aside from the weather, nothing too exciting going on lately. A normal work week here. Tonight, going to the Rockets/Blazers game with James, so that should be fun. First Rockets game of the year! They’re actually not half-bad this year, although they’re not quite in the same class as Warriors/Clippers/Thunder. We shall see if they improve as season progresses…
This weekend promises to be a most busy one, but I shall write more about that later when I have more time. One more note – a week from now I will be in Tampa celebrating Thanksgiving with the fam!!! Cannot wait. Have a most amazing day, you all.
Postscript – because apparently I want to write just a few more words. Been really thinking about my future hope lately…and how much my hope is not in this world. As I look at the horrors present in this world and the frailties of our physical bodies – truly, we are made of bones and skin and beating heart, wonderfully made, yet so fragile! – and as I think on the fate we so richly deserve for our ignominious behaviour towards the Creator of all things…I just long for that day when I am in the presence of my Saviour, my God. Someday. Someday.
Music of the Dawn
Morning friends!! Just about to start work here…but thought I’d say hi quickly! It’s the middle of the work week and I’m already starting to get a bit worn out(guess waking up at 4:30 will do that to a person…). Tonight is planned to be a quiet night in(complete with delicious chicken/leek/potato dinner and most certainly an episode of Angel!)…because tomorrow night I know is going to be a late one, me and James going to go to the Rockets-Warriors playoff game. I’m sure the Rockets will get utterly destroyed, but it’s still always fun to see some playoff basketball!! This weekend is also planned to be a quiet one…especially since it’s going to be my first weekend in Houston in a month. Shocking, I know, but that’s what happens when I spend the last three weekends in either Dallas or New Orleans. I am very very tired of driving. So this is a super random post and I really do need to start work, so I’m off! May your day be full of light and love, my friends.
Wizard Party
Hi friends! I’m chilling on the couch here in the Chuckberry house, all alone as Chase, John and Daniel are all away doing various things. And these past few hours have been a wonderful mix of both talking with friends(and by talking I mean…writing messages on facebook?), watching the Hawks/Wizards basketball game(the Wizards were perilously close to being eliminated from the playoffs…but right now, only one point down with four minutes to go!) and making a delicious dinner(which is my classic homemade burritos and tomato/avocado salad). And now, as I sit on the couch, refreshed after a hot shower and yet still weary after a long week of work, I am just thankful to God. Thankful for a nice dry house while the rain pours outside. Thankful for a delicious hot dinner to sustain my body. Thankful for an evening of rest which shall most likely include tea and a book! And oh so thankful for my wonderful friends and family that I love so dearly.
Now, dinner calls my name! Peace friends. Peace and love.
1989
One and all, Merry Christmas!!!!!
I sit here on the couch, chilling with Maryanne as we listen to one of my Christmas presents(Taylor Swift’s “1989” – wonderfully dance-y!)…and the lasagna is in the oven and the afternoon wanes. And it is beautiful. This day has been a fabulous smorgasbord of all kinds of delights!! Started the day with the family opening our gifts…and while I(of course!) got lots of awesome presents from the fam(and got to give some fun ones too!)…that wasn’t the best part at all. Just being with Dad and Mom and Maryanne and Laura…(and Caroline kitty!)…one of the best things ever. Don’t think words can express. (No, they can’t). Now, we’re switching the TV from “Little Women” to the game between the Cavs and Heat(LeBron returns to Miami!)…as is proper. After presents-opening today, we had cinnamon rolls and bacon and (yet more) coffee and talked as a family. Beautiful. I read my cards from Chris and Jo and John…and although I still miss them dearly, it made me ever so happy to read letters from them. Handwritten letters are a beautiful thing. We also had our ping-pong tournament(me, Maryanne, Laura and Dad), which I managed to win, hurrah! We’re soon planning to play a stirring game of Avalon before dinner. After dinner, more ’24’ will be watched! We’re making steady progress through Season 3(one of the best – Jack, Tony, Michelle, Chloe, President Palmer…so many good characters!!) these past few days…Jack Bauer and mint-chocolate chip ice cream and fam – quality combination.
Now, it’s game time…maybe I’ll get time to write later, we’ll see. Laters!!
I’ll Fly Away
A quick post this fine Saturday morning!
I’ve just finished my very quality lunch here at Beans(cabbage and bean soup, cantaloupe on the side. Delightful). Now, about to head off to get some errands done before heading home to do housework, but just thought I’d write a few words here now. This morning has been most productive, with much vacation planning! Booked a flight to Tampa for Easter weekend(huzzah!) and then booked a flight to Boston for summer holidays! Going to spend a long weekend there with Maryanne, Laura and Megan, plus Robbie who’s coming over from Isle of Man! Oh I can’t wait! Going to be simply epic.
Still planning a trip overseas as well, but that one isn’t quite booked yet, although I’ve done most of necessary reseach. Waiting for final confirmations from a few people before I press the button. Still. SO EXCITED. I miss people!!!
Also this morning, sent away a package to John(er, John…forget what you just read if you’re seeing this). Hopefully it reaches him in time for the NCAA tourney. Yes, that’s a hint. Speaking of NCAA basketball, UF just beat Kentucky today by 19 points. Undefeated in SEC play – conference record. Gator basketball!
Now, going to finish my cantaloupe and then roll out. Have a most awesome day, my friends!!
Bracing
Happy Saturday, y’all!!
Comfortably sitting at Books and Beans, with a very sad empty mocha cup in front of me. Shortly think I’ll go downstairs and get a sandwich, but now just enjoying sitting here. Been here a few hours now, some of that time been spent enjoyably writing messages to people and reading(Psalm 59 is awesome, just so you know!) and some of that time trying to remotely put out work fires in preparation for big project next week. It wearies me, yet I must conquer.
Now, I’m trying to think if I have any burning issues that I simply must write about, but at the moment, no? Maybe I’ll suddenly become inspired once I’m back home? Oh – definitely been enjoying the ongoing NCAA tourney – it’s madness! Kansas State loses to La Salle! Florida Gulf Coast dismantles Georgetown! Thankfully Florida stomped NW State last night for their first victory, next up – Minnesota tomorrow night!
Now, I think it is lunch time. Still not sure what I’ll make for dinner tonight, but I’ll think of something. Ham and cheese panini, yes. And then out into the gloriously windy day!
